Changes to Attendant Care & Respite Hours

posted Jul 18, 2011, 6:37 AM by Holly Prochaska
Beginning July 1, 2011, individuals receiving respite care through the Medicaid waivers will have 480 hours to be used by June 30, 2012.  This is a reduction from the 720 hours that were available in previous years.  This reduction is permanent until such time as Virginia's General Assembly increases it.

Additionally, beginning September 1, 2011, attendant care hours will be capped at 56 hours per week.  Individuals currently receiving more than 56 hours per week can appeal to have more hours per week.  Please talk with your Service Facilitator.  The Department of Medical Assistance Services (Medicaid) has not yet published specific rules regarding what documentation they will need to approve hours above this cap.

VAIL will keep individuals receiving this service informed of any changes in the future.
